file location : on disk, also http:// ?

Is there a way to use another path for the location of the images in the database than the path\file name on disk?
I am thinking of something like http://localhost/images/abc.png which could be accessed by ImageKeep (perhaps not directly, but maybe by an outside script, wget, perl or something?)
At the moment, only a location on a disk is permitted, so it seems.
